Leadership

The PAA program provides various opportunities for students to lead both in their colleges and across campus.

The Student Director of Peer Academic Advising (SDPAA) acts as a representative of the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) and has a leadership role with Peer Academic Advisor (PAA) teams across all residential colleges and specialized areas of advising. The SDPAA assists with planning and execution of a wide variety of campus-wide academic advising initiatives and events for Orientation Week and throughout the academic year.  The SDPAA actively participates in the creation, coordination, implementation, and assessment of year-long academic advising programming.

A Head PAA is typically responsible for coordinating the individual PAAs at their college and acting as a liaison officer of the OAA. The position typically requires delegating responsibilities, facilitating communication and encouraging other PAAs, as only a collective effort can optimally influence college academic vitality. The position also requires communicating and cooperating with other groups, organizations, and multiple undergraduate, graduate, staff, and faculty college affiliates. The responsibilities of a Head PAA generally require greater time and organization than the role of a general PAA. If facilitation, communication, and delegation are effective, the position is manageable and rewarding.
